THE SPIRIT TO SURVIVE - A Lifesaving Injury Prevention Program
"Exceptional and enthusiastic, hilarious, and wonderful with children" is typical feedback about Ron Mercer's "Seven Ways to Wear a Helmet!" educational skit which transcends language barriers and demonstrates to Students in a lighthearted way the importance of wearing their helmet with the chinstraps properly positioned and always having a positive attitude!
"The kids loved it! It was fabulous! Even the grade 7's thought they might need to wear a helmet after seeing Ron Mercer's "The Spirit To Survive" School Presentation!"
Quote: Deb Collins, Principal at Lord Byng Elementary |

Ron lives his life with enthusiasm and is always positive in everything he does. He knows that positive actions create positive outcomes, and that being focused in the moment helps him be injury free in all of his activities! For example, Ron applies the 4-key survival skills when riding his BMX bike in skates parks. His positive attitude helps him to be prepared, look out for others and to wear his protective gear, including a full-face helmet when BMX riding. Ron Mercer teaches his Students how to "Ride 2 Survive" in all their activities whether it's on a BMX bike, a skateboard or a snowboard. |

During a 10-year period, when Ron was competing professionally as a BMX rider, he was also teaching thousands of Elementary Students how to be injury free in their recreational activities. Ron Mercer's most famous Student is international Freerider, Ben Boyko, who combines the BMX riding skills he learned from Ron into innovative freeriding moves on his mountain bike.
Ron Mercer also does BMX performances at large outdoor events teaching young riders how to be injury free when riding in skate parks or on roadways. Each summer, Ron also traveled to Kelowna to preform at the "Fat Cat children's Festival" and the "Billy Barker Days" in Quesnel.
Along with his competitions and events, it didn't take long for Ron to start designing and constructing ramps for BMX riding so that young riders could have first-hand experiences in a controlled environment. |

Ron can often be found at various BMX camps and skate parks in the Lower Mainland where he teaches young riders BMX skills with a focus on staying injury free and last summer he taught young riders the 4-key survival skills on behalf of the BC Injury Prevention Centre. |

|
This included a new campaign called, "What's in your helmet?" promoting the importance of always wearing a helmet that has been certified to the highest standard of "crash testing" and helmet safety standards.
Ron loves to share his experiences and expertise with Students, and is highly enthusiastic about using the 4-key survival skills to stay injury free. His passionate personal style incorporates humour and resonates with Students. Teaching young riders the importance of having a positive mental attitude is at the top of Ron's to do list!
