THE SPIRIT TO SURVIVE - A Lifesaving Program

Dylan Spencer, along with an international team of exceptional young explorers from 7 nations, trekked 25,000 km by ski, foot, bicycle, and kayak from the North Pole to the South Pole. Dylan shares authentic experiences in exploration, adventure and learning with students and motivates them to succeed in all their activities by applying lifesaving strategies so they can live to enjoy another day!

Dylan and the team completed the 'Pole-to-Pole 2000' in 10 months. This was an incredible achievement of endurance and tenacity during which they learned the concepts of frostbite, blisters and road rash, experienced temperature extremes of minus 35F degrees and plus 115F degrees and felt first hand what it is like to be stalked by polar bears.
They also experienced the pride of accomplishment by being an inspiration to 12,000 people across North, Central and South America.
In February 2006, the new Disney movie, "Eight Below", filmed in British Columbia near Smithers, was launched with great fanfare. Dylan Spencer's connection with the movie was very exciting as he was the stunt double for Paul Walker and also handled all the sled dogs in the film.

Dylan is a Certified Downhill Ski Instructor and a CANSI Telemark Instructor and pursues his love of the outdoors as a Hunting Guide, Experiential Educator, Fishing Guide and Canoe Guide. He is an expert horseman and leads horse-pack adventures in the BC Caribou as well as managing a team of sled dogs. He recently performed as a "Musher" in a Disney movie that was shot on location in Greenland.
Dylan's greatest interest has always been in social and environmental issues, and the 'Pole to Pole 2000' Expedition created many opportunities to help shape the world by actively participating as a Global Citizen. He has recently completed his Masters Degree in Environmental Education at Royal Roads University.
Dylan motivates students to achieve their dreams in all of their life pursuits. He loves sharing his adventures and knowledge with them in the BC Injury Prevention Centre's "The Spirit to Survive" injury prevention program where he encourages them to plan, prepare and train for their lives so that they can realize their dreams while staying injury-free.
